How to balance your true self in an unbalanced world?

If there is one thing I always knew that I was, I’d say I am an artist.

No matter if I play the violin, or paint, or write a novel, or do photo shoots,…to me all of those things are art.

Essentially, it is about creating something worthwhile; something that is worth remembering.

And while I do not always know if I can possibly combine my passion for all those different artistic outlets, I learned that knowing who I truly am at heart and at the same time accepting it, is the single most important thing for finding true happiness in life.

Happiness and peace.

Shakespeare was quite right when he used the words, “To thine own self be true.

And to be true and authentic to myself is one thing I always strive to be.

However at the same time, it is not always possible for me or even you to do so.

Why, you might wonder?

Well, for starters, out of economic reasons.

In our day and age we need to earn money in order to survive.

We need money in order to feed ourselves, our loved ones, to pay for transportation, a place to live, etc.

You get the picture.

To deny that money is indeed important is like ignoring an important part of life.

Now, I am not saying that money is ‘the’ most important thing.

It is a means to an end.

It is like energy and you have to let it flow and respect it to draw it to you.

How can you balance who you are with the world – economically, society-wise and other-wise, when sometimes you just seem to have to do what you gotta do?

This is a question I continue to ask myself and continue to explore.

I want to be honest with you.

I have not found the answer yet.

I wish I did.

Although, maybe at the same time knowing all those answers is taking away from the mystery and fun that life beholds?

The one thing I did learn though is that you have to find a way to balance your true self with the outside world?

How?

Well, I learned that you have to accept the outside world, accept reality.

Which – if you are a dreamer like me – is sometimes quite hard to do.

Nevertheless, I advise you to wake up from your dreams a little bit.

Do not just dream forever and dream about how great it would be if you could live as your true self – may it be an artist, a photographer, an entrepreneur, or whatever else it is you envision yourself as; knowing you can be truly happy in that position.

No! Wake up and get to work.

You acquire knowledge about the world on a daily basis.

You go through life making one experience after the other.

Now, use it!

Be smart about how you handle your financials, about the steps you take towards realizing your goals and get to work to realize your dreams while of course at the same time, never giving up on them.

Take a deep breath, have fun with what life has to offer you, be thankful and just have a little faith – doors will be opened and opportunities will arise.

Then it will be up to you to take them. And take them, you shall.

But remember during this whole process to remind yourself of who you truly are.

Who are you?

Ask yourself that question, get to the essence of who you truly are as a person and ultimately, you will figure out a way to be happy.

You will figure out a way how to balance your dreams and true self with the outer world or reality and ultimately find the right mix for your happiness.

So be patient and enjoy the ride ;).
