9 Juicy Key Takeaways From Funnel Hacking Live 2019

This year’s funnel hacking live has proven to be a true rollercoaster of emotions for myself and the team.

Scared. Excited. Overwhelmed. Empowered. Energized. Tired. Jet-lagged. Sad. Happy. Fun. Thoughtful. And more.

These are only a few of the words I’d use to describe the conference.

For some reason, I’ve felt more anxiety towards this year’s Funnel Hacking Live than the previous one before.

You see, every time the day for such a conference comes around that you attend on a regular basis, you think about ALL the things you haven’t done *yet*.

The things you told yourself last year you’d have accomplished by now.

In short, you focus pretty much on ‘lack’. Instead on focusing on all the stuff you did do.

Well, at least that’s the case for me. Can you relate :)?

Anyway, as soon as the conference started though and by the second day, I was in full-on conference empowerment mode.

I absolutely adored meeting a few of my Funnel Pro Academy students as well as past and current clients. Plus, I got to meet some people I truly respected and looked up to in the industry and some awesome new peeps as well.

The networking is what made this conference truly a success!

Not only that, you want to package your marketing message into a story. Always. Why? Because STORIES SELL! Since the beginning of time, people have communicated by telling each other stories.

Stories are the thing that will make us feel emotion and connect with each other – more so than any other form of communication out there.

Neil Patel’s 2019 Marketing Outlook

That day when I walked into the conference room and later on approached the table for the VIP round-up session with Neil Patel, I didn’t know what would hit me… which is, in short, the sheer awesomeness that is Neil Patel.

One of the things that I like the most about him is that he seems so genuine. He does not try to put on a show, nor fake it.

When a person asks him a weird question, he will not try and be nice about it trying to answer the question. Instead, he is going to ask the person to re-frame what they asked and put it in a better context so that it’s understandable to everyone else.

When you sit across from him, you’re able to tell immediately the sheer genius that he has about him. His brain works magic on numbers in particular and marketing in general.

That day, my husband and I sat down at the Affiliate Summit West. Front row. And without lingering too much about who he was or what his companies did, Neil Patel dove straight into his outlook for the marketing world in 2019.

And the outlook didn’t look good.

In fact, we’re facing one of THE most challenging times – ever. And things would only get more… challenging in the future.

You see, what worked in the past did not work anymore right now.

What only worked 12 months ago, does not work anymore for marketers and online business alike.

The curveball is shifting in regards to what is considered to be valuable and of essential importance when it comes to any marketing strategy.

So, what is it?

In short: it’s eyeballs.

Whoever can get the most eyeballs on an offer, wins.

And it’s not necessarily eyeballs in the sense of getting the right eyeballs of your ideal audience – but more, eyeballs in the sense of creating a ‘buzz’ around what you have to offer.

Big brands consistently want to work with companies and influencers that can attract the most eyeballs.

Why? Because chances are the more people talk about your offer, the more chances you’re going to have for the right people to actually see your offer.

Another important aspect that he was stressing on is that digital marketing is going to move into an omni-channel approach.

It’s not enough anymore to learn and specialize in, for example, Facebook Ads, Google AdWords, Social Media, etc. as a traffic generating platform.

With more and more businesses using paid social media advertisement to acquire those ‘eyeballs’ we previously talked about, ad costs will go up.

And it will become more and more important for small businesses, solo-entrepreneurs, freelancers and even medium-sized businesses to become smarter in terms of how they market their products.

How can you keep your marketing budget at bay?

Viewing your digital marketing strategy from an omni-channel approach and becoming well-versed in different platforms.

So, if you want to survive as an entrepreneur and small business owner, you have to adapt AND create such an omni-channel approach.

How do you do this?

Well, if you have mastered Facebook Ads, for example, for driving traffic to your funnel and offering, start looking into understanding different social media platforms and vice versa.

Not only that, if you are only familiar with say one funnel strategy, dive deeper into learning about other creative ways of how you can offer your products and services.

And a few of those creative ways that have converted into most sales and eyeballs for my clients and I over these past 5 years, are exactly what I teach my students inside of my signature program the Funnel PRO Academy :).

A lot of online marketing academies or courses that are currently out there, are only focused on teaching a specific ‘traffic platform’ and only one piece of the puzzle.

But to pull off a funnel launch successfully, there is a whole lot more that goes into it. You need to examine and understand every single piece of the puzzle to put it together into one beautiful whole.

Think about it… how far are you going to be able to take a business in say five years from now if you only know Facebook Ads and nothing else? Particularly, when big businesses are going to have way more money available to acquire customers than you have?

You see where I’m going with this, right?

And it is now that we have to prepare for the ever-changing future of online marketing.

The 10 Best Books Every Girl Boss Should Have on Her Shelf

This one thing you probably don’t know about me yet – unless you watch my Instagram Stories where quite occasionally, I post sections of the books I’m currently reading.

And boy, I usually don’t just read one book at a time. I have 2 or 3 that I rotate around based on my mood and needs that day.

My husband Ben constantly makes fun of me because of that. He’s more a one-book-at-a-time-kinda-guy. Oh well, opposites attract, right :)? But what we do have in common is our love for reading.

Lately, I’ve found a few books that especially resonated with me as a female entrepreneur, a girl boss so to speak. And I wanted to share them with you.

The 10 Best Books Every Girl Boss Should Have on Her Shelf

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis – I’ve rarely read a book that felt so authentic. Rachel truly uncovers some raw and rather unspoken aspects of being a successful female business owner AND mother AND wife AND speaker AND… I still don’t know how she juggles everything. You will find yourself laughing out loud, nodding profusely and maybe even crying.

Captivate : The Science Of Succeeding With People by Vanessa Van Edwards – This book is like the bible for introverts and recovering (or still in the process) recovering awkward people… aka me :). Really. I wish I would have discovered this book YEARS ago. It would have helped me SO much in my business. Can you feel my passion for this book through this paragraph. Go get it now here.

Becoming  by Michelle Obama – Need I explain why you should check out this book? It’s truly inspirational from a smart, inspirational woman. I think you’ll love it as much as I did.

Dare To Lead by Brene Brown – How to step up and lead with heart. Mrs Brene Brown is one of those people on my list of people I must meet in my lifetime :). She’s that good and I love her humor and flair that she always injects her writing with. This book is best read with a nice glass of Rose and some music on in the background.

Start Where You Are by Meera Lee Patel – Every answer is inside of you. I personally truly believe that. If you feel stuck right now or confused or like you’ve hit a plateau, this book is for you. I’ve felt this way a LOT a few months ago and the thoughtful journaling prompts inside this book (which, okay, is more like a journal but still) have helped me find clarity with a lot of things.

Financial Intelligence by Karen Berman – If you are or want to become a business owner and have not graduated with a business diploma where you’ve probably learned all about this stuff (I wouldn’t know since my degree is in Diplomacy and Intercultural studies ^^), you need to read this book. Yes, finances are not sexy but they can AND should be. You will thank me later once your company is close to hitting seven or eight figures that I made you read this book ;).

Writing For Bliss by Diana Raab – Have you ever heard this saying that stories sell? Yes? Then you need to go read this book now. Period.

Train Your Brain: How To Build A Million Dollar Business In Record Time by Dana Wilde – Mindset is everything, darling. It truly is. It can make or break your success, regardless of how good you are at what it is you are doing or how advanced your product is. If you want to succeed you need to train your mindset like a muscle. This book will guide you in how to do this.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert – A must read for any girl boss that is looking to live a successful, creative life.

Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand In The Age Of Social Media by Brittany Hennessy – If you are a fan of content creation businesses and want to make a name for yourself as the brand, this book is for you. It’s your blueprint for how to manage AND monetize your influence online.

FOR REALS

The thing is though… this list can seem really overwhelming to some of you, especially if you’re not a big reader. Don’t get me wrong, I feel like there is so much wisdom to be gained from reading books. You are essentially getting access to the experience someone has made for years and what they have learned from it. To me, there’s true value in that.

Regardless, I don’t want this list to hold you back from taking action NOW. You probably already know the next step that you need to be taking to get some momentum going. So, go ahead and take that step now. Read those above books along the way whenever you have time and for continuing education.

And don’t forget, these are all just perspectives of one person’s life and that person’s experiences. If something does not feel like it aligns with how you feel and it just does not seem to make sense for you, disregard it – regardless, of who wrote it. Even me!

You want to be forging your own path. Trust yourself the most whenever you get that feeling… you know which one I’m talking about ;).

Do you remember how I mentioned I read 2 or 3 books at a time? Well, one of them is ALWAYS a fiction book (in addition to all the non-fiction books I read).

I just love stories. Heck, I’m totally addicted to them and I think that even a smart business person can learn a lot from reading popular and not so popular fiction books.

It’s about learning and understanding what moves people. Often times, the things that move us span entire continents and touch peoples hearts, regardless of gender or ethnicity.

So, I want to encourage you to not forget how fun reading can be! I often times stare at a computer sooo long that I am excited to get away from it and I do this with one heck of a good fiction book. Without further ado, here are my faves…

  1. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah (looove her writing style and character development!)
  2. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang (juicy. did I already say juicy hehe)
  3. Love And Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch (who doesn’t love gelato, right?)
  4. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum (simply a cute novel)
  5. Shelter In Place by Nora Roberts (for those who love mystery and suspense)

One final tip before I go, those educational non-fiction books? Try them out on Audible. I love listening to an audiobook while doing my morning workout.

10 things entrepreneurs can learn from Freddie Mercury!

Yep. After reading the title of this blog post, you probably figured already but Ben and I went ahead and watched The Bohemian Rhapsody this past weekend.

And boy! Are we in love with Freddie Mercury and our existing love for all the Queen songs has been newly ignited (okay, almost all, because I still don’t get the Bicycle song until this day ^^)!

After the movie, we went for some fusion Korean Bibimbap and Mexican dinner and chatted like always about our impressions of the movie and the story-line.

By the way, if you’re an entrepreneur and marketer, I highly recommend analyzing and dissecting the story lines of movies you’ve just seen.

Think back to what parts stuck out to you, where the theater audience ‘ahs and oohs‘ and why that might have been the case, etc. You learn a lot about creating a great story from watching great (and not so great) movies. Ma favorite!

Anyway, back to today’s post ;).

An alter ego (Latin for "other self") is a second self, which is believed to be distinct from a person's normal or true original personality. A person who has an alter ego is said to lead a double life.

According to performance coach, Todd Herman, an Alter Ego allows you to increase your performance in business! How so?

Think about it…

Whether you know it or don’t realize it, you’re operating in your day with an alter ego – always. If you assume a different ego as a mother, father, boss, employee, etc. As such, you’re stepping into different stages of your life constantly: work, family, friends, public and private, and magnifying different parts of your personality to be successful in each of them.

The problem is, you’re more than likely allowing the fears, judgements of others and personal insecurities you have, to govern the actions you’re taking.

So, if you’d consciously create an Alter Ego for yourself as an entrepreneur, you can overcome all these road blocks so much faster and more efficiently.

How do you create an Alter Ego? Well, there are many ways to do so. It can be as simple as choosing to wear specific glasses throughout the day during work – or, whenever you do a call, FB live, etc. you put on a specific lipstick shade ;).

Freddie Mercury did the same by consciously creating his Alter Ego for the stage throughout his clothes. How will you do it? Leave a comment down below.

(3) LOVE AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

“I’m possessed by love, but isn’t everybody?”

Too often we are consumed by ego-centric questions like, “I want to hit that revenue,” “I’m afraid they don’t like what I have to offer,” “our operations need to improve,” etc.

They are all coming from the business’s and organization’s point of view and not, from the perspective of what is best for our customer and client. Surely, we care about them. But I want to advocate to care more about them <3.

To put our customers and clients experiences and results at the upmost importance to us, so much so that we think about this ninety percent of the time.

Because, if our customers and clients feel that we truly love doing business with them, this love, dedication and care will become amplified and success is unavoidable.

So, I want to encourage you that whatever it is that you do and create throughout your career, make sure to love what you are doing and for whom you are doing it for. Be in love with your market and niche, love your customers and clients, love your struggles as well as successes…

In the end, life is all about love, babe ;).

(4) GOAL SETTING

“I like to be surrounded by splendid things.”

Even when Freddie Mercury was still working at a packer at the London Heathrow Airport, he knew that one day he would like to be surrounded by splendid things.

He was always fighting, especially with his father about the kind of lifestyle he yearned to create. The thing is, if you also love the more splendid things in life, there is nothing wrong with it. It is totally okay and I encourage you to get clear on those.

Get clear on the goals that you have for your life and how you envision your ideal life to play out.

(5) CHARISMA

If there is one thing that we can all agree on it’s that Freddie Mercury had one bombastic charisma. Now, I dug into this a little bit and interestingly enough, I found out that you can learn how to become more charismatic!

(6) ORIGINALITY TRANSLATES

“The whole point of Queen was to be original.”

Why originality? Originality translates into emotions. Emotions connect people.

There is so much noise online and all around us. So much noise. We experience a constant onslaught of the media, different people’s opinions and more.

In a world that has so much noise, how do you find your originality? It’s a question that I ask myself a lot because I believe that originality is a part of making your message go viral (if not the most important part of the recipe when we talk about a business’s message).

(7) BE 1000% COMMITTED

“When we began, we approached it the way we did because we were not prepared to be out-of-work musicians, ever. We said either take it on as a serious commodity or don’t do it at all.”

Did you know that there was a test that measured your commitment? If your jaw just dropped open than you’re like me a few months ago when I first found out about it.

Test are always fun, aren’t they? So, I thought I’d share this with me. Granted, Freddie Mercury surely did not take this test to ever measure his level of commitment because he was so one-thousand percent committed to Queen and their goals.

Regardless, I think with all of the shiny object syndrome all around us that often times come from consuming things online, it is a great idea to measure your commitment to find out if it could use some focus on our end.

(8) PURPOSE

“I love the fact that I can make people happy, in any form. Even if it’s just an hour of their lives, if I can make them feel lucky or make them feel good, or bring a smile to a sour face, that to me is worthwhile.”

Why do you want to be an entrepreneur?
Why do you want to grow your specific business?
What is your purpose?
What is the message you want to share with your tribe?
What brings a smile onto your ideal customers and clients?
What brings a smile onto your own face?
How do you want your ideal customers or clients to feel when doing business with you?

If you’ve never stopped and paused to answer these questions for yourself, I want to encourage you to do so right now. Grab your favorite notebook or your journal, lighten a candle, turn on some soothing music and off you go. Figure out these questions for you.

Note: There are no right or wrong answers. There are only those answers that feel like they are in alignment with you.

(9) MONEY

“Money can not buy happiness, but it can damn well give it!”

This is something that I absolutely believe in. Growing a business means that you have to grow your business revenue. This is something any business owner will always focus on.
If your revenue is not growing, your business is not growing.

Now, the more money you personally make does not mean that your happiness will grow at the same rate. You are responsible for your own happiness and it is something that is fundamentally innate.

However, something that will definitely ignite your own happiness is if you give meaningful gifts and financial support to someone in dire need of it.

(10) ALLOW YOURSELF TO DREAM

“My soul has painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die,
I can fly, my friends…”
